About Us

Our Mission.

MHANC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) membership organization dedicated to improving mental health across Nassau County through advocacy, education, program development, and direct services. We act with compassion, cultural sensitivity, and an unwavering belief that mental health is essential to overall health.

We exist to serve as the path to mental wellness and recovery by transforming our community’s experience with trauma.

Mental health resources are needed more than ever.

Wounds You Can’t Always See

PTSD isn’t always visible, but its impact runs deep. Many live with the echoes of trauma but stigma keeps too many silent. We’re here to listen, and to support healing at every step.

Addiction Rates Are Climbing

More people are using substances to cope with stress and trauma. What begins as relief often becomes dependence. We meet this crisis with compassion and paths to recovery.

Information Overload

We’re more connected than ever, but it’s wearing us down. Nonstop screens and online pressure are increasing anxiety, disrupting sleep, and weakening emotional well-being. Building digital resilience takes a person-centered approach.

Rising Costs. Rising Stress.

Economic pressures like inflation and housing insecurity can erode a person’s sense of safety and control. No one should have to choose between mental health and meeting their basic needs.

OUR APPROACH

Compassion. Connection. Commitment.

Rooted in trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care, we believe every person deserves to be seen, heard, and supported with dignity. Everything we do is guided by three essential pillars: Giving Hope, Building Community Capacity, and Transforming Lives.

These are more than principles, they’re the path we walk every day.

Our Values.

No Health Without Mental Health

Nothing About You Without You

Universal Respect & Care

Meet the team behind the mission.

MHANC is led by a passionate and experienced team of professionals, clinicians, and advocates dedicated to mental wellness and recovery. We bring lived experience, cultural humility, and a shared belief that every person’s story matters.

Our legacy lives on in the lives we’ve helped transform, like Ken and Shanita, a couple who faced years of hardship from combat-related trauma that strained their marriage. At MHANC’s Veterans Wellness Retreat, they found a space to heal, reconnect, and rebuild together. Today, they are proud parents of three, homeowners, and living a thriving, fulfilling life.

We are forever grateful for the support from the Vet2Vet community and the shared resources that helped us heal, grow, and flourish.
