Stronger Workplaces Start With SAFE
What Does It Mean to Be SAFE Approved?
Organizations displaying the SAFE Approved Member badge have completed MHANC’s SAFE Workplace Mental Health Support Training and demonstrated a commitment to building a supportive, stigma‑reducing, people‑first workplace culture. SAFE Approved organizations are recognized as leaders in mental wellness and early support.
What is SAFE?
SAFE is MHANC’s workplace mental health support model that empowers supervisors and staff to recognize signs of concern, approach with care, connect people to support, and build a culture where mental wellness is part of everyday leadership.
SAFE (See the Signs, Approach with Care, Find Support, Engage & Encourage) is MHANC’s Workplace Mental Health Support Training designed to help non-clinical staff recognize concerns early and respond with confidence, compassion, and clarity. SAFE gives workplaces a practical framework for building mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and creating a culture where employees feel seen, supported, and connected to help. The training is designed for real-world use by supervisors, HR teams, managers, and coworkers, and can also be adapted for community settings such as churches and senior-serving organizations.
Why SAFE?
SAFE matters because mental health challenges often show up in everyday environments long before someone reaches a crisis point — and most people want to help, but don’t know how. SAFE equips workplaces with a shared language and simple tools to respond earlier, support one another more effectively, and strengthen pathways to care. By improving mental health literacy and promoting a stigma-free approach, SAFE helps organizations become safer, healthier, and more prepared places for employees and communities alike.
